Frequently asked questions

Yes. Booking with MountKinabaluClimb.com is definitely safe since our designated professional ground handler, is a registered local travel agency with the Sabah Tourism Board.

Please be warned that a number of phoney or fraudulent websites providing illegal Mount Kinabalu packages have been reported, and they can be based anywhere in the world. Many climbers who fell into this scam were left stuck in Kota Kinabalu without the advertised climbing permits, lodging, or tours.

Make sure you get the right invoice, confirmation, and tour schedule from legitimate local tour guides with information on the company's address, phone number, and type of vehicle. Do not allow these con artists to ruin your holiday.

There is a fixed and limited number of climb slots available per day. The term "climb slot" actually refers to a bed that is associated with a climbing permit. In fact, the entire number of beds is equal to the total number of approved climb permits.

A climbing permit and a bed for an overnight stay are included if you reserve your climb slot with us.

Please use caution while making lodging arrangements from unidentified sources, as there have been numerous instances documented when climbers paid for their lodging in advance but were unable to obtain climb permits.

Yes, a climbing permit issued by Sabah Park Authority is required. As you will be periodically checked at specific check locations, you must always wear the climb permit (visible) ID tag while climbing.

A 40% payment is required to reserve standard climb slots and accommodations, and the remaining balance is due 45 days before the tour starts.

To reserve Via Ferrata climb slots or lodging, a 50% payment is needed, and the remaining balance needs to be paid 45 days before the tour starts.

For last-minute bookings made less than 45 days before the start of the tour, 100% full payment is necessary to reserve climb slots, lodging, and entry.

Unless otherwise specified, reservations for the Mount Kinabalu Climb package can only be held for a maximum of 2-3 days after the customer invoice is issued. Failure to make payments by the due dates could automatically cancel your reservation and release your climb slots, lodging, tours, and other bookings to other people in the waiting list without prior warning.

All reservations are based on space being available at the time of reservation.

The client must give written notification if they cancel their reservation. The client and their travelling companions are responsible for the following cancellation fees:

Days between the start of the tour and when the cancellation notice is received:

  • 0 days or longer forfeits 40% of the tour price.
  • 5 to 29 days (75% of the tour price is lost)
  • 08 to 14 days (85% of the tour price is lost)
  • 4–07 days; forfeiture of 95% of the tour price
  • 04 days or fewer or no show: 100% of the tour cost is forfeited.

The cancellation policies outlined in the terms and conditions of the relevant third parties, as well as a minimum handling fee of MYR50 per service per person, shall apply to tour products or individual components provided by third parties, such as air tickets, hotel/lodge bookings, etc.
